Molecular Love, Portraits

iffperfumers.jpgMolecular Love: March of Perfume Posse sent me a message a few weeks ago, and it has been bothering me. Well, she had some great points in her message which made me think to do something about it…

Portraits: I love portraits whether it’s photography, painting or sculpture. I’m thinking about showing the great black and white photos of all 34 fine fragrance and beauty care perfumers at IFF on the website. It will probably be the first time for any major fragrance houses to show their most valuable assets to the public. [by Nobi]

  1. What a splendid idea, Nobi!
I am sure a lot of us would like to see the noses behind the names :-D I know, it’s a terrible pun! But anyway, you must do this!

  2. Dusan, that’s an encouraging comment - thanks. I hope Firmenich, Givaudan and the others will be able to do the same thing. I can feel more and more younger perfumers want their presence to be visible. I believe people who are enjoying the scents made by theses perfumers feel the same. And me? I’m just a nosy artist who likes to dig into things:)

  3. I want to see how Pascal Gaurin looks like! He is the one who made Fetish for Visionaire right?

  4. Nobi, dig away :-D
Seriously, I think it is high time the noses were given the credit they deserve and stopped being merely ghost artists behind fragrance houses and their names. This is not to say an “anonymous” fragrance makes it less of a work of art, rather it helps one follow the trajectory of a perfumer’s career. I like to regard a fragrance as, say, a work of Annick Menardo rather than as one of Dior’s releases, and also compare it to the rest of her output.
Of course, I am also interested to see what most of them look like :D

  5. I agree with Dusan. It makes it a lot more personal to know who actually created a fragrance. Fragrances houses are mostly faceless entities. And I love b+w portraits.

  6. Beatrice, Pascal is the second one from the right on the top row. A bigger image is coming soon:) And, I think he did Fetish but am not completely sure.

Dusan, Kuri, it’s realy nice to hear your comments, and I’m sure the perfumers are happy to learn that there are people who want to know more about them.
