The Rumor: IFF to buy Symrise Fragrance Division
Surprisingly, this thread is still running. It looks like the fragrance division of Symirise is unofficially on sale as I predicted a year and a half ago when Givaudan acquired Quest International which was in the number five position. Symrise is still the froth biggest company in flavors and fragrances industry, but I would say it will be gone in a few years. Takasago (who once betrayed me by not supporting my project in a timely manner… and Firmenich came to the rescue!) is in the fifth position since Quest is gone. Takasago once had Pierre Bourdon and did Cool Water togehter. Now it has the fantastic Francis Kurkdjian on its side. Takasago may tend to rely on one super talent but definitely knows how to choose the savviest one who enjoys being involved in the strategic side of perfumery. This is somehow similar to the way Toyota has been doing business overseas, and I’m starting to think that Takasago may have a grand plan to be the number one in ten years by strengthening the fine fragrance division… let’s see.
One thing that IFF and Givaudan may want to learn about is「少数精鋭」(fewer people of superior ability). Otherwise, their superiority may not last for long.
