Driven by Enthusiasm (KRE House)

A client says “I want a 9 car garage and be able to enjoy viewing one of them in the living room.” These may not be typical amenities for a house in a super posh neighborhood in the US, but it is feasible. “Oh, and the living room needs a tall tree.”
Given only a little more than 2000 square feet of land, what will an architect do in the most populous part of Tokyo when his enthusiastic client makes such requests? This was the case with Takuya Tsuchida whose unique design for a house in Fukushima Prefecture was shown here in January.
Due to the unique structural design and floor layout, it wasn’t easy for them to acquire a building permit for this house, but in the end the enthusiasms of both the client and architect prevailed.

[...] Sometimes, rich clients can come up with the craziest of demands and the architects can do nothing but oblige. Takuya Tsuchida, an architect from Tokyo, faced a grave situation where a client demanded a 9 car garage in his house and he wanted to enjoy viewing one of his scorchers (a Lamborghini) in his living room. Also, other than an automobile in the living area, he wanted a tall tree sharing some living space. The challenge was to raise such a structure in the most populous part of Tokyo and the available space was a limited 2000 square feet. The structural layout was so complicated that it was with great difficulty, the house permit was eventually acquired.[No.555 and via digsdigs, Whatwedoissecret] [...]

[...] Takuya Tsuchida (Photos by Koichi Torimura) twisted arms and fought building codes for his client when seeking to install this unique horizontal, in-house garage door and elevator system. Much like the infamous patio Cardok car lift design, the imprint left behind after the lifting process in the otherwise rather ordinary living room space is noticeable but not too obtrusive. [...]
