He is no Tadao Ando, but that doesn’t make Akira Sakamoto any less of an architect. If you had a choice between Ando and him as an architect for your very first house, without any doubt, I will recommend to choose Sakamoto even if Ando (who is unlikely to take on a small residential project) were more than happy to take the task on.

Sakamoto’s impressive body of work is worth being mentioned not in terms of design aesthetic, but for the quality of consistency in the craftsmanship and the usability for the people who use the space.

And Akira Sakamoto’s first and foremost forte – the subtle references to Japanese tradition and culture. No one does better than him.
