This is a brilliantly playful design for a mixed use residence. What Katsutoshi Sasaki first had in mind was a flat plate of steel with thirteen (8 + 5) holes. He then bent and rolled the plate like making a Bûche de Noël (or a roll-up cake). Instead of filling the cavities with cream or jelly, Sasaki made spaces for living and working – a part of the house is used for the client’s hair salon.
