When architects design their own homes, they don’t want everything set in stone. Nobuya Kashima and Aya Sato, who designed the houses shown in our two previous posts, built their own house on a small and narrow lot in Tokyo. Their primary concern was to build a solid box with maximum volume of space, and they let the rest to follow after they move into the house.

I really like the floating stairs. I’ve been trying to think of a way to get that feel in my own house yet still do things the way the insurance company would like.
