A reinterpretation of one of the oldest housing technologies in North America.
The Edgeland House by Bercy Chen Studio sits in a gap once occupied by a Chevron pipeline on a rehabilitated brownfield site. Despite its ultra modern appearance, the residence’s design is actually a modern reinterpretation of the Native American Pit House, one of the oldest housing technologies in North America, which allows the structure to maintain thermal comfort throughout the year with its sunken placement 7 feet into the ground.
